A design I knocked out last weekend for Michael Clark’s fundraiser for his dog Zero that’s going to be at Empire on the 2nd. I was going to wait and hope to snap some photos of it once it’s printed up on a t shirt (same with the two designs I’ve done recently for Tony) but as it’s Thanksgiving Weekynd and this is the closest thing to an image of a drumstick I have, I figured I’d post it.
Happy Black Sabbath.

I figured as it's been a month and some change since I finished the most recent issue of Dino Rock, I'd give a little update on what I've been working on since.

As a change of pace and a way to have a personal project tie more closely with the work that I do at my job (because I have learned that you can never learn too much about After Effects) I've been prepping a short little film. While I don't want to get into the nitty gritty of the thing as I'm still in full preproduction mode, I figured I'd just give a baby hoot of an update. I've been playing with some test footage I shot over the weekend and hopefully if The Unpaid Intern and myself can pull this project off, it will go down as The Greatest Cinematic Triumph Ever Made. So no pressure! Regular comic booking will resume once this project's completed, but rest assured, this short will have all the hallmarks of Dirty Dino Rock (explosions, corpse desecration, THE HUMAN CONDITION)
Stay tuned for more updates!

Recent doings...

Here's a few things I've been making recently:

The lovely ladies over at Ten Thousand Villages in Carytown asked me to design another event flyer for them which I was all too happy to oblige. Their Village Gallery is going to be a showcase of all the unique one-off items that they've collected over the year and every item is up for sale!

and changing gears considerably...this coming weekend is the big BC Brew Crew weekend and kicking things off is a karaoke fundraiser on Friday for the Richmond SPCA. Knowing these guys it will be quite the fundraiser if last year's is anything to go by. If you like cats, dogs and/or drinking consider attending; if you hate all three, stay far far away.

I also saw the debut of my first ever t shirt design! Tony and the guys from Ratmeat wanted a spoof of the famous Iron Man 'Demon in a Bottle' cover but more...Richmond. The shirts came out looking great and the band packed Empire for a show that I could only manage to take the blurriest photos of...so enjoy.

Dirty Dino Rock 6: The End of the World Issue

The newest issue is finally finished! This one is near and dear to my heart as it’s based off of a dream that I had all the way back in March. Unlike most dreams I have, I wrote this one down and tweaked the ‘plot’ a little bit so that, you know, it actually made narrative sense (also nobody in this comic is wearing hockey jerseys whereas in my dream that is evidently the Post Apocalyptic fashion of choice)

(almost) SUMMMMMAH TIIIIIIME

Officially back and unjetlagged (at some point I need to make a post about the trip because I discovered A LEGITIMATE SECRET OF THE VATICAN THAT THE PEOPLE HAVE A RIGHT TO KNOW) the ladies Grace, Leigh and myself are jumping into full even planning mode for the FESTIVAL OF RIGHTS to be held May 26th at Gallery 5. Along with Worthless Junk Records, we've put together a line up of awesome bands and are collecting art donations for a charity sale all to benefit Planned Parenthood. Also: we may have a face painter! Greatest fundraiser ever? Yes. Greatest fundraiser ever.

Monday we got got our lineup 100% so on a pretty quick turnaround I made this riff on old Barnum and Bailey posters and have been distributing them around town ever since.(if you see a perpetually disheveled redhead wandering around town with a purse full of posters, THAT'S ME) Thanks to all the stores that let us put up flyers, hope to see everyone at Gallery 5!

WE WERE YOUNG, WE WERE PHYSICALLY FIT, AND WE WERE CHALLENGING LOGIC.

Welp, I'm less than an hour from heading to the airport with the family but I figured an update on two events happening while I'm out of the good ol' River City was warranted.

First off on April 30th at Ghostprint Gallery there's going to be a big art auction to help raise money for Kerry Talbott, a teacher in the Communication Arts department at VCU. He's had some really serious health problems in the past year and Patrick Godfrey from Velocity Comics has organized this event to help cover his medical bills. Kerry was my teacher for sequential imaging and a completely badass artist (seriously for a pretty soft spoken guy, when he brought in pages of a comic he was working on that entailed a zombified Jesus Christ wreaking havoc, the lapsed Catholic in me was both amazed and terrified of secondhand blasphemy) and I was really grateful to be able contribute to the show. If you're reading this and you haven't heard about it yet, you should totally go! There's going to be a ton of artists contributing (I'm really hoping nobody picks up all of James Callahan's work so I can snag it for myself when I get back) http://artmission.tumblr.com/

I didn't manage to get an overall photo before handing it over to Patrick, but here's a couple pics of what it...sort of...looks like....

Also occurring whilst I am away is that on April 28th, the Ten Thousand Villages in Carytown is having their annual spring fashion show. I created a poster, smaller handouts, and set up a layout for the program that incorporated all of the different fabrics that are new to the store this season. These clothes are crazy because all of the patterns are hand block printed so if you look closely you can see all the variations in the patterns. Plus, you know, free trade and all that...so it's ethical too! I'm on my laptop right now and will put the full poster up when I get back to RVA but for now I'll just put up what the program cover looks like as it's similar to the layout of the full sized poster.

Okay, i really need to go and pack...

I recently did a flyer and a patch design for Bitch City and a flyer for Riot Squad's April Fools Show.

Dirty Dino 5: Live and Let Dinosaur

Dirty Dino Rock: Love in the Time of Dinosaurs

In honor of Valentine's Day, a new love themed Dirty Dino Rock! Hard copies are available at Crossroads, Strange Matter, Velocity Comics, Rumors, and Globehoppers.

A HUGE thank you to anybody who's told a friend (or friends) about Dirty Dino Rock, anybody who's gone out of their way to email me letting me know what they think, all of the places that let me drop off issues with an extra thanks to the nice guys over at Velocity. I've also put up all four issues up on DirtyDinoRock.tumblr.com so people can read it there as well.

Dirty Dino Rock III: DINOS IN TIME

the only ornament you'll ever need

Another month and another new Dino Rock! I decided to devote this issue to the story of a single character, a man whose tale could not be contained by a mere one or two page spread, a man who would be legend...or something...whatever.

Thanks to all the places that have let me drop off issues; if anybody is interested in picking up physical copies they're at Lift, Empire, Velocity Comics, Crossroads, Rumors, Strange Matter, and Globehoppers.

And check out towards the bottom of the blog, Blogger's got some bells and whistles regarding Facebook and Twitter (AND LEST WE FORGET THE GOOGLE PLUS) so if you like this or anything else on the blog, spread the word? (And also I'm just curious to see if that function actually will work)
